How to Adjust Screen Brightness on Your Digital Photo Frame

11 abr 2026 Homture

Getting the brightness right on your digital photo frame makes a big difference — too bright in a dim room feels harsh, too dim in a sunny space makes photos hard to see. Your Homture frame gives you several ways to control brightness: a manual slider, a proximity sensor that responds to people nearby, and an ambient light sensor that adapts to the room.

Adjusting Brightness Manually

The manual brightness slider lets you set a fixed brightness level that works for your space.

Step 1

Tap the frame screen to bring up the menu, then tap Settings.

Step 2

Tap General.

Step 3

Find the Brightness slider. Drag it left to dim the screen or right to increase brightness. The change applies in real time as you drag — you'll see the screen adjust immediately.

Tip For most living rooms, a brightness level around 60–75% works well during the day. For bedrooms or dimly lit spaces, 30–50% is usually more comfortable.

How the Proximity Sensor Affects Brightness

Your Homture frame includes a proximity sensor (radar-based) that detects when someone is nearby. This sensor automatically adjusts brightness based on presence:

  • Someone nearby (within 5–6 feet) — the frame runs at full brightness so photos look their best when you're viewing them
  • No one around — the frame drops to 90% brightness to conserve a small amount of energy while still keeping the display visible
How it works The proximity sensor uses radar technology to detect presence without a camera. It works through walls and in complete darkness, so it responds even if the room lights are off.

The brightness levels above (full vs. 90%) are relative to whatever you've set with the manual slider. So if you set the slider to 60%, "full brightness" means 60% and "no one nearby" means 54% (90% of 60%).

During Sleep Mode

When sleep mode is active, the proximity sensor is ignored entirely. The screen stays off regardless of movement in the room. When the frame wakes from sleep, it immediately resumes proximity detection.

Auto-Brightness via Ambient Light Sensor

In addition to the proximity sensor, your Homture frame has an ambient light sensor that measures the brightness of the room itself. This allows the frame to automatically adjust its display to match the lighting conditions around it:

  • In a bright, sunlit room — the frame increases brightness so photos remain vivid and easy to see
  • In a dim or dark room — the frame reduces brightness to avoid being overpowering
Tip Auto-brightness works best when the frame is placed where the ambient light sensor has a clear view of the room — not facing directly into a bright window or tucked into a dark corner.

Turning the Screen Off Completely

If you want the screen to turn off entirely — not just dim — you have two options:

  • Sleep mode — schedule automatic screen-off times (e.g., 11 PM to 7 AM). See our guide on How to Set Up Sleep Mode.
  • Manual off — some frame models allow you to tap and hold or use a physical button to turn the screen off temporarily.
Note Setting the brightness slider to its lowest position dims the screen significantly but does not turn it off completely. Use sleep mode for a full screen-off.

Brightness Tips by Room

  • Living room — 60–80% during the day; let auto-brightness handle evening adjustments
  • Bedroom — 30–50% maximum; use sleep mode to turn off at night
  • Office — 70–90% to compete with overhead lighting
  • Hallway — 40–60%; the proximity sensor will boost it when someone walks by
